Agricultural farm
Agricultural farm may be defined as a piece or pieces of
land operated as a single unit of agricultural enterprise under the management
of a farmer or an organization.
Or, The lands where agricultural products are produced under
the leadership/ supervision of a farmer or an organization is defined as Ma
agricultural farm.
Definition of farm management:
# Farm management means combining the factors of production
and distribution in farm, so as to make maximum continuous profit out of
minimum cost.
# According to J.N. Efferson, farm management is defined as
the science that deals with organization and operation of farm in the context
of efficiency and continuous profit.
# According to G.F. Warren, farm management is the science
of organization and management of the farm enterprises for the purpose of
securing the greatest continuous profit.
# According to Morehenry, farm management is the study that
deals with the business phase of farming.
# According to Bradford and Monson, farm management is a
branch of agricultural economics, which deals with wealth earning and wealth
spending activities of farmer in relation to the organization and operation of
the individual farm unit for securing the maximum possible net income.
In other words, farm management is defined as science that
deals with the analysis of farming resources, alternative choice and
opportunities within the frame work or resource restriction and social and
personal constraints of the farming business.
Scope of farm management:
Farm management treats every farm as a separate unit because
of differences in the availability of resources, problems and potentialities.
The main concern of farm management is the farm as a unit. Farm management
deals with the allocation of inputs at the level of individual farms. The objective
of farm management is to maximize returns from the farm as a whole. It is
interested in the profitability along with practicability. What crops,
livestock enterprises and their combination to grow, what amount of resources
to be applied, how the various farm activities to be performed, etc., all these
fall within the scope of farm management.
